TikTok Shop: A New Powerhouse in US Beauty E-Commerce
The US beauty market has experienced steady growth in the first quarter, with a significant shift towards digital platforms. Among these, TikTok Shop has quickly risen to prominence, now accounting for 10% of total beauty e-commerce sales despite being launched less than three years ago. This data comes from a recent report by Circana.
Prestige retail dollar sales saw a 6% increase, reaching $8.1 billion in Q1 2026 compared to the same period last year. On the other hand, mass retail sales rose by 7% to $18.1 billion. “Mass and prestige beauty are growing at nearly the same rate for the first time in five years,” stated Larissa Jensen, a global beauty industry advisor at Circana.
The report further highlights that beauty has become the leading category on TikTok Shop in 2026. Propelled by live shopping events and promotional moments, beauty and personal care led all categories in Q1, capturing 20% of TikTok Shop dollar spending. In the prestige market, e-commerce now represents nearly half of prestige dollars and the majority of units sold for skincare specifically.
“Digital and social platforms are no longer just a testing ground for emerging brands; they are full-scale commerce engines,” Jensen noted. The data indicates that products such as fragrance, facial skincare, hair treatments, and personal care items like body lotion and wash continue to benefit from consumers prioritizing self-care, elevated routines, and wellness-driven products. This shift underscores the transformative impact of social commerce on how consumers discover, trial, and purchase beauty products.
