Meta Boosts Humanoid Robotics Drive with Acquisition of AI Startup

Meta has successfully completed the acquisition of Assured Robot Intelligence, a startup renowned for its specialization in robot models. This move forms part of Meta’s aggressive strategy to dominate the humanoid robotics technology sector. The deal was finalized on Friday, with the financial details remaining undisclosed.

The startup’s team, which includes co-founders Lerrel Pinto and Xiaolong Wang, will be integrated into the Meta Superintelligence Labs—the company’s artificial intelligence research division. Their collaboration with Meta Robotics Studio will focus on developing foundational technology for humanoid robots. This includes full-body humanoid platforms, control systems, and self-learning techniques.

Meta’s acquisition of Assured Robot Intelligence is a testament to its broader investment in AI and physical computing. In late April, the company raised its capital spending forecast for 2026 to between $125 billion and $145 billion. This increase was attributed to higher component costs and increased infrastructure needs. Meta lauds the startup’s work as pivotal in enabling robots to interpret and respond to human behavior in unpredictable, real-world conditions.
