Cirrus Incorporates ‘Safe Return’ Emergency Autoland in SR22 G7+ Series

Cirrus Aircraft has unveiled the SR22 G7+, marking it as the first piston aircraft to be equipped with the ‘Safe Return’ emergency autoland system. This advanced safety technology, a brainchild of Garmin, was previously exclusive to the company’s Vision Jet and select turbine aircraft.

The ‘Safe Return’ system is a revolutionary feature that can autonomously land the aircraft at a suitable airport by simply pressing a button. It requires no human intervention and is capable of landing on runways exceeding 5,836 feet. This is a significant leap forward in general aviation safety, bringing emergency autoland capabilities to piston-engine aircraft for the first time.

The G7+ is an upgrade to Cirrus’s seventh-generation SR22 platform. It already boasted the Cirrus Perspective Touch+ flight deck with dual Garmin Touch Controllers, 35% larger displays, and enhanced flight envelope protection. The incorporation of emergency autoland further underscores Cirrus’s dedication to pioneering safety innovation in general aviation.
