Meta Amplifies Investment in Texas AI Data Center to a Whopping $10 Billion
Meta Platforms unveiled a colossal expansion of its artificial intelligence infrastructure on Thursday, March 26, 2026. The tech giant has ramped up its investment in an El Paso, Texas data center to a staggering $10 billion. This is a more than sixfold increase from the original $1.5 billion commitment announced in October 2025.
The expanded facility is set to grow to a 1 gigawatt capacity and span 3.1 million square feet, a significant increase from the initially planned 1.2 million square feet. The data center is slated to come online in 2028 and will support more than 300 permanent jobs once completed. Additionally, over 4,000 construction workers will be required during peak construction periods.
The announcement was made by Gary Demasi, Meta’s vice president of development and strategy, during the 2026 Global Summit hosted by the Borderplex Alliance. This move highlights the enormous capital expenditures Big Tech companies are making to build AI infrastructure. Firms such as Meta, Amazon, Alphabet, and Microsoft are projected to spend over $630 billion on AI infrastructure in this year alone.
Moreover, Meta also announced a $500,000 grant to support workforce development efforts in partnership with El Paso public schools. The company has also committed to adding more than 5,000 megawatts of clean energy to the Texas grid to power the facility.
