Sikorsky Sets Sights on Triad of Trailblazing Aircraft Debuts in 2026

Sikorsky, the Connecticut-based helicopter manufacturer, is spearheading an ambitious technology development program. The company has announced plans to debut three groundbreaking demonstrator aircraft in 2026. These include the Nomad 100 autonomous rotor-blown wing aircraft, the fully autonomous U-Hawk Black Hawk variant, and a hybrid-electric tiltwing demonstrator known as HEX.

Nomad 100

The Nomad 100, equipped with an 18-foot wingspan and Sikorsky’s Matrix autonomy technology, is capable of carrying payloads up to 2,000 pounds. Currently in the final stages of ground runs and subsystem checkout, the aircraft is set to take flight within the year, according to Sikorsky vice-president Rich Benton. The Nomad 100 is part of a scalable family targeting both military and civilian applications, including:

  • Reconnaissance
  • Cargo delivery
  • Search and rescue operations

U-Hawk Black Hawk

The U-Hawk represents a fully autonomous conversion of the UH-60L Black Hawk helicopter, a feat achieved in just 10 months. Engineers have innovatively removed the cockpit and crew stations, creating 25% more cargo space with clamshell doors and a loading ramp. The aircraft integrates Sikorsky’s Matrix autonomy technology and can be controlled via tablet. This makes it a cost-effective utility for military cargo operations and civilian applications such as firefighting and disaster relief.

HEX Hybrid-Electric Tiltwing

The HEX hybrid-electric tiltwing demonstrator completed ground runs in December 2025. It is now being prepared for hover and low-speed flight trials, with full flight testing expected in 2027-2028.
