Celebrating 40 Years, Piper Aviation Museum Announces Major Expansion
The Piper Aviation Museum located in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, is commemorating its 40th anniversary with the unveiling of a substantial 9,600-square-foot expansion to its historic facility. The museum, which reopened its doors on March 4, 2026, has seen a surge in visitor traffic, reaching full capacity at its existing 30,000-square-foot location.
Established in 1986, the museum is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the legacy of Piper Aircraft, the Piper family, and the crucial role Lock Haven played in aviation history. The expansion is set to accommodate up to 14 additional aircraft, including the museum’s newly acquired prototype, the PiperJet. It will also feature new interactive exhibits and hands-on learning areas.
“The expansion signifies more than just additional exhibit space,” stated museum president Ron Dremel. “It bolsters our position as an educational hub, community resource, and regional economic driver. This is a transformative opportunity to preserve aviation history, inspire future generations, and secure the Piper Aviation Museum’s growth for the coming decades.”
The museum’s Board of Directors has given the green light for the addition to the museum’s current location in the historic Piper Aircraft engineering building at the William T. Piper Memorial Airport. The expanded facility is projected to support enhanced K–12 programming, internships, community events, and boost tourism in Lock Haven and Clinton County. The museum draws in thousands of visitors annually from all corners of the nation and around the globe.
