Framework Hints at Major Linux Integration for Upcoming Hardware Event
Modular PC manufacturer, Framework, is creating a stir in anticipation of its “Next Gen” event on April 21, 2026. The company has dropped major hints that Linux will be a key player in their forthcoming announcements.
Framework recently unveiled a teaser video titled “Follow the white penguin“. The video is rife with clear references to Linux, including the iconic penguin mascot, the “I use Arch btw” meme, and a montage of several Linux distribution logos such as Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch, CachyOS, and Bazzite. The event will be livestreamed from San Francisco at 10:30 AM PT (1:30 PM ET).
In a compelling blog post, Framework’s founder, Nirav Patel, discussed current industry trends. He highlighted that memory, storage, and silicon are being consumed at unprecedented levels in a ‘winner takes all’ race to an AI-first world. The company is taking a stand against the industry’s shift towards subscription models and closed ecosystems, reinforcing its commitment to user ownership and control.
“As long as there is a person in the world who still wants to own their means of computation, we will be here to build the hardware that enables it,” the company declared.
Framework also announced its expansion to four new countries: New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, and Singapore. However, the company advised potential customers to hold off on placing orders until after the event.
While Framework has always supported open-source systems, the latest teasers suggest a deeper Linux integration may be in the pipeline. This could potentially include new products or components specifically optimized for the Linux community.
