In a landmark decision for aesthetic medicine, the FDA has given its seal of approval to Radiesse. This marks it as the first injectable filler with an on-label indication for treating wrinkles in the décolleté area, as announced by Merz Aesthetics this week.
The calcium hydroxylapatite-based biostimulator, previously approved for facial and hand treatments, now extends its benefits to the chest area. This region is often neglected in skincare routines, despite being an early indicator of aging due to sun exposure and thin skin.
“The décolleté is one of the most visible—and earliest—areas to show signs of aging,” says Samantha Kerr, chief scientific officer at Merz Aesthetics. Unlike traditional fillers that merely add volume, Radiesse works by stimulating collagen and elastin production over time, enhancing both the appearance and texture of the skin.
As per the company’s data, patients witnessed noticeable improvement within a few months, with results enduring up to two years.
Vienna, Virginia dermatologist Dr. Brenda Dintiman elucidates that the treatment employs hyperdilute Radiesse. This is mixed and diluted specifically for chest and facial applications to stimulate natural collagen production, rather than creating an immediate fill.
This FDA approval brings fresh focus to one of the first areas where aging tends to manifest, offering patients a scientifically supported alternative to topical products.
