Sony and TCL Ink $470M TV Joint Venture, Set to Launch in 2027

Sony Corporation and TCL Electronics have finalized definitive agreements for a strategic partnership aimed at reshaping the global television market. TCL is set to acquire a 51% controlling stake in Sony’s home entertainment business for approximately 75.4 billion yen ($470 million). The new joint venture company, christened “Bravia Inc.”, is scheduled to kick off operations in April 2027.

The agreement, sealed on March 31, 2026, transfers Sony’s entire home entertainment business to the new entity. This includes consumer TVs, B2B flat panel displays, projectors, and home audio products. Although TCL gains majority control and operational oversight, Sony will retain 49% ownership. Sony will also continue to provide its renowned picture processing technology and the Bravia brand name.

This deal signifies a major shift in the competitive landscape. It combines TCL’s manufacturing scale and supply chain capabilities with Sony’s premium technology and brand reputation. Operations are expected to commence following regulatory approvals, with Sony’s 2026 TV lineup remaining unaffected by the transition.
