U.S. Bancorp Chosen by Amazon for New Small-Business Credit Cards
On March 31, 2026, Amazon made a significant announcement: U.S. Bancorp has been chosen as the new issuer for its redesigned small-business credit cards. This move ends an eight-year partnership with American Express. The new cards, which will operate on the Mastercard network, are set to launch in late spring 2026. Existing American Express cardholders will transition to the new U.S. Bank cards by August 14, 2026.
The new offering includes two distinct cards:
- The Prime Business Card: This card provides 5% cash back on Amazon purchases for Prime members.
- The Amazon Business Card: Non-Prime customers will receive 3% back with this card.
Both cards come with enhanced rewards for purchases outside Amazon, no annual fees, and improved cash flow management tools designed specifically for small businesses. Moreover, the annual earnings cap has been increased from $120,000 to $150,000.
For Minneapolis-based U.S. Bank, the fifth-largest commercial bank in the United States with 1.4 million small-business clients, this partnership represents a significant opportunity. It allows the bank to cross-sell services to Amazon’s vast network of business sellers and strengthens U.S. Bank’s co-branded card portfolio, which comprises approximately half of its credit card business.
