FAA Greenlights Swift 100R Unleaded Fuel for Over 840 Aircraft Engines
Swift Fuels has achieved a significant breakthrough in the transition towards unleaded aviation gasoline. The FAA has broadened its approval of the company’s 100R unleaded fuel to encompass more than 840 aircraft engines. The FAA’s Approved Model List was updated on March 11, 2026, and now includes engines ranging from the 65-horsepower Continentals to the robust Lycoming 540 series.
The introduction of the 100R fuel marks a substantial stride towards the industry’s objective of phasing out leaded aviation fuel by 2030. With the FAA’s expansion of the AML list, the fuel has received approval for use in engines manufactured by Continental, Lycoming, Franklin, Pratt & Whitney, and several radial engines. Swift Fuels secured ASTM specification approval in September 2025, a crucial milestone for the fuel’s commercialization.
Aircraft owners can secure a “Forever STC” for $100, which will automatically cover future approvals as Swift continues to expand the approved engine list. The company is utilizing its existing UL94 infrastructure to introduce 100R, with the fuel already available at over 100 airports across six countries. Swift is persisting in its efforts to certify higher-compression engines and turbocharged models before the end of 2026.
