Apple Unveils New MacBook Air with Advanced M5 Chip and Doubled Base Storage

Apple has recently announced a significant update to its renowned MacBook Air lineup. On March 3, 2026, the tech giant introduced the new M5 chip, boasting enhanced AI capabilities and performance improvements. The upgraded MacBook Air, available in 13-inch and 15-inch models, hit the market on March 11, 2026.

The M5 chip is equipped with a 10-core CPU, which Apple touts as the world’s fastest CPU cores. It also features up to 10 GPU cores outfitted with Neural Accelerators. Apple claims that this new chip delivers performance that is up to 4x faster for AI tasks compared to the M4-equipped MacBook Air. Additionally, the chip includes improved shader cores, a third-generation ray-tracing engine, and faster unified memory with 153GB/s of bandwidth—a 28% improvement over the M4.

In a noteworthy upgrade, Apple has doubled the base storage to 512GB, utilizing faster SSD technology, and made it configurable up to 4TB. The new models also incorporate Apple’s custom N1 wireless chip, offering Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 connectivity. The MacBook Air continues to sport its signature thin, light, fanless aluminum design, providing up to 18 hours of battery life.

The 13-inch model starts at $1,099, marking a $100 increase from the previous generation, while the 15-inch model begins at $1,299. Both models are available in four sleek colors: sky blue, midnight, starlight, and silver.
