NVIDIA Forms Strategic Partnership with Mira Murati’s Thinking Machines Lab

Former OpenAI Chief Technology Officer, Mira Murati’s AI startup, Thinking Machines Lab, has secured a major strategic partnership with semiconductor giant NVIDIA. The announcement was made on March 10, 2026. The multi-year deal includes a significant undisclosed investment from NVIDIA and commits the AI research lab to deploy at least one gigawatt of NVIDIA’s forthcoming Vera Rubin chip systems beginning in early 2027.

This partnership marks a pivotal moment for the young AI company. Founded in February 2025, Thinking Machines Lab has already raised over $2 billion from investors. These include Andreessen Horowitz, Accel, and AMD’s venture arm. A gigawatt of computing power, enough to power approximately 750,000 homes, positions Thinking Machines Lab among the elite tier of AI companies with frontier-scale capabilities.

“NVIDIA’s technology is the foundation on which the entire field is built,” said Murati in the announcement.

The deal comes after a turbulent period for Thinking Machines, which saw several co-founders depart in January 2026 to rejoin OpenAI. However, the company has grown from 30 employees a year ago to roughly 120 today, signaling continued momentum despite the leadership changes.

The partnership underscores the intensifying competition in AI infrastructure. Access to cutting-edge chips and computing power has become as crucial as talent for building next-generation AI systems.
