Superdrug Makes Sun Protection Affordable to Tackle ‘Sunscreen Poverty’

On March 9, 2026, UK health and beauty retailer, Superdrug, unveiled substantial price cuts across its own-brand Solait suncare range. This move aims to make sun protection more affordable as we head into the warmer months.

Over 25 products in the Solait range have seen price reductions, with several items now starting from just £4. Notable changes include:

  • Solait Sun Lotion SPF30 and SPF50 200ml, reduced from £5.50 to £5
  • Solait Face Fluid SPF30 and SPF50 50ml, dropped from £5 to £4

Additionally, the company has slashed prices on aftersun products and children’s sensitive formulas.

This initiative is a response to research from the Child Poverty Action Group. The study found that nearly a quarter of low-income families struggled or found it impossible to afford toiletries such as sunscreen last summer. Jamie Archer, Own Brand Director at Superdrug, emphasized that sun protection should not be a luxury families compromise on, especially with the arrival of warmer months. These price reductions ensure customers can access high-quality sun care without the burden of cost.

Alongside the price investment, Superdrug has introduced new additions to the range, including:

  • Solait Aftersun Aerosol Spray 150ml
  • Solait Scalp and Hair Spray SPF50
