Archer Aviation Sets New Standard with FAA Certification for eVTOL Aircraft

Archer Aviation, a pioneering force in the electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft industry, has achieved a significant milestone. It is the first manufacturer of its kind to gain full acceptance from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its Means of Compliance for the Midnight aircraft. This marks a critical stride toward the initiation of commercial air taxi operations.

The company made this historic announcement on March 2, 2026, paving the way for Type Inspection Authorization activities to commence as early as this year. The Midnight aircraft, designed to transport one pilot and four passengers up to 100 miles on a single charge at speeds of up to 150 mph, is now one step closer to its goal of launching passenger-carrying flights in 2026.

As of the end of 2025, Archer boasted approximately $1.96 billion in cash and short-term investments. This provides a substantial runway for certification and commercialization. The company is currently expanding its piloted fleet and advancing programs in both the United States under the FAA’s eVTOL Integration Pilot Program, and in the UAE. Abu Dhabi is expected to be among the first regions globally to host commercial eVTOL operations.

CEO Adam Goldstein stressed that achieving the Means of Compliance milestone “unlocks our ability to finalize the acceptance of our remaining certification plans with the FAA“. This positions Archer ahead of competitors in the race to launch commercial electric air taxi services.
