Introducing MacBook Neo: Apple’s Most Affordable Mac Yet at $599

Apple has launched the MacBook Neo on March 4, 2026, marking the company’s boldest push into the budget laptop market with a starting price of just $599. For education customers, the price drops even further to $499. This makes it the most affordable new MacBook ever released by Apple, undercutting the current MacBook Air by a substantial $400.

The MacBook Neo is a trailblazer, being the first Mac laptop to run on an Apple A-series chip instead of the traditional M-series processor. It’s powered by the A18 Pro chip, similar to the one found in the iPhone 16 Pro. The device features a 13-inch Liquid Retina display, boasts up to 16 hours of battery life, and is available in four vibrant colors: silver, blush, citrus, and indigo.

Despite its budget-friendly positioning, the MacBook Neo maintains Apple’s signature aluminum build quality. It includes features like Touch ID on the 512GB model, a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, and support for Apple Intelligence AI features. However, to achieve this aggressive price point, some compromises were made. These include the use of an iPhone-class chip instead of the more powerful M-series processors, and limited USB-C ports with varying speeds.

Pre-orders for the MacBook Neo began on March 4, 2026, with general availability starting from March 11, 2026. This launch represents Apple’s clearest attempt yet to challenge Chromebooks and entry-level Windows laptops in the education and budget consumer markets.
