Apple Unveils M5 MacBook Air: Doubling Storage and Introducing Wi-Fi 7
Apple has unveiled the new MacBook Air with M5 chip on March 3, 2026, bringing significant performance improvements and expanded AI capabilities to the world’s most popular laptop.
The M5 chip boasts a 10-core CPU which, according to Apple, is the world’s fastest CPU core. This is combined with an up-to-10-core GPU that includes a Neural Accelerator in each core. As a result, the M5 MacBook Air can deliver up to 4x faster performance for AI tasks compared to the M4 model, and up to 9.5x faster than the M1 version. The enhanced architecture makes it particularly capable for running Apple Intelligence features and large language models directly on the device.
A major change comes in storage configuration: the new MacBook Air now starts with 512GB of storage at the base level — double the previous 256GB — using faster SSD technology. Storage options extend up to 4TB for users who need extensive local capacity. The updated model also includes Apple’s N1 wireless chip, bringing Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support for improved connectivity.
The MacBook Air maintains its thin, light aluminum design and features a Liquid Retina display, 12MP Center Stage camera, up to 18 hours of battery life, and two Thunderbolt 4 ports with support for up to two external displays. Available in both 13-inch and 15-inch models in sky blue, midnight, starlight, and silver, pre-orders began March 4 with availability starting March 11, 2026.
