Tesla’s Autonomous Cybercab Robotaxi: A New Era Begins

Tesla has recently achieved a significant milestone in its autonomous vehicle ambitions. The company’s first fully autonomous Cybercab robotaxi rolled off the production line at Gigafactory Texas in mid-February 2026. CEO Elon Musk confirmed the production start and congratulated the team via social media.

The revolutionary two-door Cybercab is a game-changer in the automotive industry. It features no steering wheel or pedals and is entirely dependent on Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software for operation. Designed for fully autonomous ride-hailing services, the Cybercab is set to be priced under $30,000, making it one of the most affordable autonomous vehicles on the market.

Full-scale production of the Cybercab is scheduled to begin in April 2026. Tesla’s Texas factory aims to reach an annual production capacity of 2 to 4 million vehicles. The company is employing its innovative “Unboxed” manufacturing process, which divides the vehicle body into four modules for parallel assembly. This process achieves production cycles of just 5-10 seconds per unit—approximately seven times more efficient than traditional assembly lines.

However, the Cybercab faces regulatory hurdles in the U.S. Federal motor vehicle safety standards mandate human controls, and Tesla will need exemptions from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration before the vehicles can operate on public roads.
