FAA Commences 48th Annual General Aviation Activity Survey
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has initiated its 48th annual General Aviation and Part 135 Activity Survey. The agency is urging aircraft owners across the United States to report their flying activity for the calendar year 2025.
Launched in mid-February 2026, the survey serves as the sole comprehensive source of information on the general aviation fleet. It provides insights into the number of hours flown and the diverse applications of general aviation aircraft. The FAA stresses that participation in this voluntary survey is crucial for both the agency and the wider aviation industry.
The data gathered via the GA Survey fulfills several key functions for government agencies and industry stakeholders. These include:
- Calculating safety metrics such as fatal accident rates
- Understanding the economic impact of general aviation on jobs and infrastructure investments
- Tracking the success of safety initiatives including avionics recommendations
- Determining funding for infrastructure and service needs
- Assessing the impact of regulatory changes
Aircraft owners can complete the survey online at AviationSurvey.org. Some owners will also receive survey forms through the mail. The FAA emphasizes the need for responses from all aircraft owners. This includes those who did not fly their aircraft during 2025 or who sold their aircraft, to ensure accurate representation of all aviation activity.
Several groups of aircraft are surveyed annually to gain a better understanding of high-use segments. These include turbine aircraft, rotorcraft, newer aircraft, and Alaska-based aircraft. The survey is administered by Tetra Tech on behalf of the FAA. Aircraft owners with questions can contact the company toll-free at 1-800-826-1797.
