Honeywell Introduces Ground-Based Weather Radar for General Aviation Airports
Honeywell made a significant announcement on February 3, 2026. They revealed a revolutionary extension of their IntuVue RDR-7000 3D weather radar technology. This expansion is a ground-based weather detection application, tailored specifically for the operations of general aviation airports.
The innovative system utilizes Honeywell’s established volumetric 3D scanning technology. It offers real-time, high-resolution weather monitoring along intended flight paths. This system is designed to aid pre-departure planning and low-altitude operations. By doing so, it provides airports and operators with improved situational awareness during adverse weather conditions.
The ground-based radar can be strategically placed at the pinnacle of an air traffic control tower or any tall building within the airport. Its design allows it to detect hazardous weather phenomena such as wind shear and thunderstorms in low-altitude environments. This contributes to safer operations at general aviation airports. The system is currently in the testing phase by a Honeywell channel partner company.
