Amazon Pledges Record $12 Billion for AI Data Center Development in Louisiana
On Monday, February 23, 2026, Amazon unveiled its plans to invest a whopping $12 billion in the construction of advanced data center campuses in Louisiana. This marks the company’s most significant investment in the state to date and its inaugural data center presence there.
The planned multi-site development will span across Caddo and Bossier Parishes in northwest Louisiana. The design aims to support cloud computing technologies and cater to the increasing demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure.
The project is anticipated to create 540 direct full-time jobs at the data centers. Furthermore, the Louisiana Economic Development estimates an additional 1,700 indirect jobs across the region in supporting roles such as electricians, HVAC technicians, and security specialists.
Amazon has expressed its commitment to responsible development. The company announced it will bear 100% of the costs for the required electrical infrastructure and upgrades for the facilities. This ensures no additional burden on local utility ratepayers. Additionally, the company pledged up to $400 million in public water infrastructure investments. The facilities will only use verified surplus water to prevent straining local supplies.
This announcement is part of Amazon’s massive AI infrastructure push. Earlier this month, the company announced plans to invest $200 billion in capital expenditures in 2026—more than any other tech hyperscaler. Amazon is partnering with digital infrastructure firm STACK Infrastructure on the Louisiana project. Construction is set to begin imminently, according to company officials.
