Join the Cayman Islands’ Hunt for a ‘Chief Relaxation Officer’ and Enjoy a Free Vacation
The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism is pioneering a unique campaign to combat the stress of modern vacations. They are on the hunt for a Chief Relaxation Officer (CRO). This lucky individual will enjoy a two-week, all-expenses-paid stay, showcasing the beauty of intentional rest and the joy of slow travel.
This one-of-a-kind opportunity is part of the destination’s “Welcome to vaCay” platform. The package includes:
- Round-trip flights to Grand Cayman
- Inter-island travel to Cayman Brac
- 13 nights of luxury accommodations at The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa and the boutique Le Soleil d’Or
- A daily stipend for meals and activities
- On-island transportation
- A custom “no-itinerary itinerary” designed by the islands’ Board of Relaxation
The role of the CRO is a response to research indicating that 40% of Americans return from vacation more exhausted than when they left, with 61% still adhering to strict schedules even on their days off. The “job” responsibilities of the CRO include:
- Sleeping at least eight hours per night (naps are encouraged)
- Spending time by the water daily
- Dining with locals to learn relaxation rituals
- Spotting rare island species like the Blue Iguana and Cayman Parrot
- Ending each day with a tech-free sunset on the beach
To apply, U.S. residents aged 21 and older with valid passports must submit their “worst vacation ever” story at the official Cayman Islands tourism website. Applications were accepted through February 17, 2026. The Board of Relaxation, composed of local hospitality leaders, restaurateurs, and wellness experts, will select the candidate most in need of a genuine rest.
“It’s time to master the art of slowing down,” said Rosa Harris, Director of Tourism for the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism. “Here in the Cayman Islands, slowing down isn’t an indulgence, it’s a part of our culture.”
