New Hangar Development Approved at Manassas Regional Airport Amidst Long Waitlist

Manassas Regional Airport in Virginia has secured approval for a multimillion-dollar development project. This project will introduce 35 new aircraft hangars to the bustling general aviation facility. The project aims to address a critical shortage that has resulted in aircraft owners waiting up to three years for hangar space.

The approval was granted to High Flying Hangars by the Manassas City Council in January 2026. The approval was for a Request for Franchise Proposal (RFFP) to develop the new hangar complex at Manassas Regional Airport (KHEF) in Prince William County.

The design plan includes 35 hangars in a combination of sizes:

  • 2,000 square feet (50 ft by 40 ft)
  • 3,600 square feet (60 ft by 60 ft)

These new hangars will feature premium amenities for aircraft owners.

With over 400 aircraft currently based at KHEF and a wait list exceeding three years, the new development addresses a pressing need at Virginia’s busiest general aviation airport. The facility is strategically located just 16 miles south-southwest of Dulles International Airport, offering convenient access to Washington, D.C., via the adjacent Virginia Railway Express train system.

Airport manager Juan E. Rivera expressed enthusiasm for the approval. Meanwhile, High Flying Hangars CEO Kenny Hinkes highlighted the importance of the development for the Northern Virginia tech centers and Washington metro area business community. Initial reservations are now being accepted through the High Flying Hangars website.
