Montepulciano, Italy: The World’s Most Welcoming City
Montepulciano, a charming town in southern Tuscany, Italy, has been honored as the world’s most welcoming city in the Traveller Review Awards 2026 by Booking.com. This prestigious recognition underscores destinations that have been lauded for their exceptional hospitality over the past year.
Renowned for its Vino Nobile red wine, produced in the surrounding vineyards, Montepulciano topped the list. The rankings were determined based on the ratio of award-winning accommodation providers to total listings. These awards identify cities and regions that offer hospitality that “leaves a lasting impression with thoughtful touches, warm interactions, and hosts who go the extra mile.”
Seven European destinations have made their way into the top 10 most welcoming cities list. England’s spa town, Harrogate, secured the fourth place, while Lithuania’s coastal city, KlaipÄ—da, concluded the rankings. The awards have been announced at a time when anti-tourist protests have been making headlines in some popular destinations, making genuine hospitality an increasingly valued aspect for travelers planning their trips.
