Unexpected Technical Failure Forces Early Conclusion of Celebrity Infinity Cruise

Celebrity Cruises’ flagship, the Celebrity Infinity, encountered an unforeseen technical glitch, leading to an abrupt termination of a 13-night Mediterranean voyage. The incident, which affected nearly 1,950 passengers, transpired on February 15, 2026. The ship lost power around 3:00 AM while nearing Piraeus, Greece, necessitating aid from local tugboats.

During the incident, passengers experienced power outages in their rooms, loss of air conditioning, toilets, and WiFi. Royal Caribbean, the parent company of the cruise line, acknowledged the technical issue in a letter to guests. The letter underscored that the safety and well-being of the passengers remained their utmost priority. Instead of the originally planned disembarkation on February 16, passengers had to vacate the ship a day earlier on February 15.

Celebrity Cruises organized hotel accommodations for 180 back-to-back cruisers and offered a $300 USD per stateroom reimbursement. The cruise line is currently addressing the technical issues, with the ship set to embark on another 11-night voyage from Piraeus on February 16. This incident underscores the ongoing operational hurdles that the cruise industry faces during the bustling Mediterranean season.
