Lufthansa Group Teams Up with Starlink to Equip 850 Aircraft Fleet with High-Speed Internet
The Lufthansa Group has announced a pioneering partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink on January 13, 2026. This collaboration aims to equip its entire fleet of approximately 850 aircraft with high-speed satellite internet connectivity. This initiative makes the Lufthansa Group the largest airline group in Europe to adopt Starlink technology across all its carriers. The group includes Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Eurowings.
The satellite-based system will empower passengers to stream content, work via cloud-based applications, and use other data-intensive services during flights. The service will be available free of charge to all status customers and Travel ID users across all travel classes. The gradual introduction of Starlink will commence in the second half of 2026, with the aim of achieving complete fleet deployment by 2029.
“In our anniversary year, in which we are celebrating Lufthansa’s 100th birthday, we have decided to introduce a new high-speed internet solution from Starlink for all our airlines,” said Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of Lufthansa Group. The partnership signifies a significant shift from legacy connectivity systems and positions the Lufthansa Group at the forefront of in-flight connectivity technology.
