Tragic Business Jet Crash in Maine Claims Six Lives
A Bombardier Challenger 600 business jet met with a fatal accident during takeoff at Bangor International Airport in Maine on the evening of Sunday, January 26, 2026. The tragic incident resulted in the death of all six people on board. The aircraft, which was registered to a Houston-based law firm, flipped over and caught fire around 7:45 p.m. amidst a severe winter storm.
The jet had just refueled at Bangor after arriving from Houston and was en route to Paris when the mishap occurred. Aviation safety consultant Jeff Guzzetti pointed out that the Bombardier Challenger 600 model has a known history of problems with icing on takeoff, which has led to previous accidents. Airport officials confirmed that deicing operations were in progress at the time, but it remains unclear whether this specific aircraft had been treated before departure.
Among the victims was 47-year-old pilot Jacob Hosmer, a Houston-area captain who had been employed by the law firm since May 2025. The NTSB and FAA have initiated investigations into the crash. The airport was closed following the incident and remained so for several days as investigators scrutinized the scene.
