Introducing AirTag 2: Apple’s Latest Innovation with Extended Range and Enhanced Sound
Apple has officially launched its second-generation AirTag tracking device, marking the first major product release of 2026. The new AirTag comes nearly five years after the original model debuted in 2021.
The upgraded tracker is equipped with Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, enabling Precision Finding to work up to 50% farther away from lost items compared to the previous generation. An upgraded Bluetooth chip further expands the overall tracking range, making it easier to locate items both nearby and at a distance.
Audio improvements are equally significant, with the new AirTag now 50% louder than its predecessor, allowing users to hear the device from up to twice as far away. The enhanced speaker is paired with a distinctive new alert chime designed to make pinpointing misplaced items easier, whether they’re hidden between couch cushions or buried in a bag.
Apple has also expanded its Share Item Location feature, partnering with over 50 airlines to help travelers recover delayed or lost luggage. According to SITA, a leading IT provider for airlines, using this feature has reduced baggage delays by 26% and decreased truly lost luggage by 90%.
The new AirTag maintains the same $29 price point for a single unit, with a four-pack priced at $99. It’s available for order now on Apple.com and will ship starting January 28, with in-store availability coming later this week.
