Meta Unveils Global Advertising on Threads, Engaging All Users

Meta is set to introduce advertising on Threads to its global user base commencing the week of January 26, 2026. This development signifies the full monetization of the social media platform, two years post its inception.

The global rollout is a result of a yearlong testing program that initially involved a limited number of advertisers in January 2025, before extending to all eligible advertisers by April 2025. The ad formats on offer encompass image ads, video ads, carousel ads, Advantage+ catalog ads, and app ads. These leverage Meta’s AI-driven advertising system to deliver personalization levels akin to those of Facebook and Instagram.

Threads has witnessed significant growth, boasting 100 million daily active users in December 2024 and exceeding 300 million monthly active users by January 2025. Meta disclosed that three-quarters of Threads users follow at least one business account, indicating a robust commercial presence even before the introduction of advertising.

Ad delivery will initially be kept low as Meta gradually expands to achieve global user availability in the forthcoming months. The platform’s integration with Meta Business Suite enables advertisers to manage Threads campaigns in conjunction with Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, thereby simplifying workflow for businesses operating across multiple Meta platforms.

This development marks a crucial monetization milestone for Threads, which Meta has dubbed as “the best place for conversations about current topics.” Advertisers can now engage the platform’s burgeoning user base with the same advanced targeting capabilities available across Meta’s suite of apps.
