New Routes Announced by American Airlines from Chicago and LA Hubs
American Airlines has recently announced a significant expansion of its domestic network, with five new routes launching from its Chicago O’Hare and Los Angeles hubs in 2026.
The airline will add service from Chicago to Allentown, Pennsylvania and Columbia, South Carolina beginning May 21. Additionally, a new long-haul seasonal route to Maui, Hawaii will be starting from December 17.
From Los Angeles, American Airlines will launch daily year-round flights to Cleveland and Washington Dulles starting April 7. This expansion represents American’s continued commitment to offering customers more travel options than any other airline in the U.S. Tickets for these new routes will go on sale from January 26.
The airline is also upgrading aircraft on select long-haul routes from Los Angeles. The upgrades include:
- Introducing Airbus A321XLR aircraft with Flagship Suite seats to New York JFK
- Deploying Boeing 787-9 aircraft with premium suites on select London Heathrow flights beginning March 28
With these additions, American is expected to operate around 7,000 flights daily during summer 2026, maintaining its position as the world’s largest airline by flight volume.
