Anduril Industries Announces $1B Expansion in Long Beach, Boosting Defense Tech Sector
On January 23, 2026, defense technology company Anduril Industries unveiled plans for a significant expansion. The company is set to invest $1 billion in a new campus in Long Beach, California, a move that will generate approximately 5,500 new jobs. The facility, which is expected to be operational by mid-2027, signifies a major milestone for both the defense tech sector and Southern California’s aerospace industry.
The forthcoming campus will spread across 1.18 million square feet, encompassing six buildings. It will integrate 750,000 square feet of office space with 435,000 square feet of industrial space, the latter dedicated to research and development. Situated at Douglas Park near Long Beach Airport, the facility will concentrate on the development of advanced systems, including autonomous drones, missiles, robotic submarines, and autonomous fighter jets.
“It looks like we’re going to be able to manufacture autonomous fighter jets that will take off right from the factory and fly to wherever the customer needs them,” Anduril founder Palmer Luckey, a Long Beach native, told reporters. While the company’s headquarters will remain in Costa Mesa, the Long Beach campus will serve as a second major hub.
This expansion mirrors wider trends in the defense industry, where AI-powered autonomous systems are increasingly becoming integral to national security strategy. With a valuation of $30 billion in its most recent funding round, Anduril has established itself as a pioneer in next-generation defense technology, capitalizing on the growing government demand for rapid iteration and software-integrated systems.
