Youngest Solo Aviator Launches 8Flight EFB to Rival ForeFlight
Matt Guthmiller, renowned for setting the world record as the youngest person to fly solo around the world at age 19, has unveiled 8Flight. This next-generation Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) application is poised to compete head-on with industry frontrunners like ForeFlight and Garmin Pilot.
While building his popular YouTube aviation channel, Guthmiller has been diligently developing the app. 8Flight boasts real-time AI-enhanced weather data, offline flight planning capabilities, and exhaustive airport information, including FBO fees, fuel prices, and restaurant details. “I was getting fed up with some of the other options, wishing it did this or that,” Guthmiller confessed, referencing his software engineering background from MIT.
8Flight provides access to FAA weather cameras that refresh every 10 minutes. This feature equips pilots with near real-time visual conditions at hundreds of airports across 24 states. The app leverages artificial intelligence to cut down weather reporting delays from the usual 15-20 minutes to near real-time updates.
The full-IFR EFB 8Flight Aviator is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and Mac platforms. It comes with a free 30-day trial, after which subscriptions start at $79.99 annually. An advanced weather package is available for an additional $59.99 per year. Although it was initially launched two years ago as primarily an airport directory, by late 2025, the app had evolved into a comprehensive EFB platform.
