Unveiling Tokyo’s Giant 150-Meter Fountain: A Spectacular Boost for Tourism

Tokyo is poised to debut one of the world’s largest fountains in March 2026, as part of an ambitious plan to rejuvenate tourism in the waterfront district of Odaiba. The colossal installation will project water 150 meters high and stretch 250 meters wide, featuring a cherry blossom-inspired design that pays tribute to Tokyo’s official flower.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government predicts that the awe-inspiring fountain show will draw more than 2.5 million visitors annually and generate an economic impact of approximately 9.8 billion yen for the city. The project, with a budget of 2.62 billion yen, will showcase nighttime performances that blend water choreography with music and illumination, set against the backdrop of the iconic Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo Tower.

This fountain initiative is a key component of Tokyo’s broader strategy to lure tourists back to the bay area in the wake of pandemic-related downturns. Odaiba, an artificial island in Tokyo Bay, has long been a beloved entertainment and shopping destination but has witnessed several attractions shutter in recent years. The new fountain seeks to reestablish the area’s allure as a must-visit destination for both domestic and international travelers.
