Textron Aviation Unveils First Delivery of Citation CJ3 Gen2 Light Jet

Textron Aviation proudly announced on January 8, 2026, the official entry into service of the Cessna Citation CJ3 Gen2. The launch customers, Dave Mecartney and Shannon Day, took delivery of their new aircraft this week. This marks the most comprehensive Gen2 update to date, according to the company.

The Citation CJ3 Gen2 is a significant upgrade to the popular light jet family. It boasts key enhancements such as:

  • Garmin autothrottle technology
  • An extra 4.5 inches of pilot legroom
  • A fully customizable cabin environment seating up to 10 occupants

The design of this aircraft was based on extensive customer feedback from Textron Aviation’s Customer Advisory Board, which includes owners, pilots, and mechanics.

“The Citation CJ3 Gen2 delivers an unmatched experience from day one—thanks to its exceptional range, payload and efficiency, combined with new productivity and comfort features,” said Lannie O’Bannion, senior vice president of Sales & Marketing at Textron Aviation.

The aircraft is equipped with the latest Garmin G3000 avionics with touchscreen controllers and autothrottle capability to reduce pilot workload. It boasts a maximum range of 2,040 nautical miles (3,778 kilometers) and a maximum payload of 2,135 pounds, making the CJ3 Gen2 an excellent performer for a variety of business aviation missions. The aircraft received FAA certification in October 2025.
