Alaska Airlines Debuts First European Route: Seattle to Rome in April 2026

Alaska Airlines has announced the sale of tickets for its inaugural European route. This historic service will provide daily nonstop flights between Seattle and Rome, commencing on April 28, 2026. The flights will be operated on the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, signifying a significant step forward in the airline’s international expansion strategy.

Originally, the plan was to operate the service four times a week. However, due to robust customer demand, Alaska has increased the frequency to daily flights. With roundtrip fares starting as low as $599, this service presents an appealing choice for West Coast travelers planning a trip to Italy. The 5,688-mile route is estimated to take approximately 10 hours and 45 minutes eastbound, and 11 hours and 20 minutes westbound.

The Rome service is Alaska’s first foray into European destinations. The airline will also be launching additional routes to London Heathrow and Reykjavik, Iceland, in spring 2026. The new 787-9 aircraft boasts 34 enclosed business class suites with lie-flat seats and 266 economy seats. Passengers can look forward to enjoying chef-inspired meals, complimentary beverages, free onboard entertainment, and ultra-fast Starlink Wi-Fi (available from fall 2026).

By 2030, Alaska Airlines aims to serve at least 12 intercontinental destinations from Seattle, thereby establishing the city as its global gateway.
