Boeing Set to Escalate 737 Production to 47 Jets Monthly by Mid-2026
Boeing has unveiled plans to escalate the production of its narrow-body 737 passenger aircraft to 47 units per month by late spring or early summer 2026. This move signals a renewed confidence following a period of intense regulatory scrutiny and production constraints.
Katie Ringgold, Boeing’s Vice President and General Manager for the 737 Program, expressed that 2025 was a year of stability while 2026 will be a year of growth for the aerospace giant. The production increase follows a temporary cap imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration after a door plug failed on an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 in January 2024.
The company elevated its monthly production from 38 to 42 aircraft in September 2025 after addressing issues of inadequate training and oversight identified by the National Transportation Safety Board. Boeing has since implemented improved production rigor and worked to rebuild its supply chain, supported by a substantial backlog of over 6,000 orders for 737 aircraft.
The planned production ramp-up reflects growing confidence in Boeing’s manufacturing processes and the continued strong demand for narrow-body aircraft from airlines worldwide. The 737 MAX family remains a cornerstone of Boeing’s commercial aircraft portfolio, competing directly with Airbus’s A320neo family in the single-aisle market segment.
Industry analysts note that both Boeing and Airbus continue to face supply chain challenges that could affect their ability to reach higher production targets, though both manufacturers are displaying increased optimism about production increases in 2026.
