Peter Island Resort: A Grand Reopening After 7-Year Hurricane Recovery
Peter Island Resort, the largest private island resort in the British Virgin Islands, celebrated its grand reopening on December 1, 2024. This marks one of the most eagerly awaited comebacks in the Caribbean. The luxury resort had been closed since 2017, following the devastation caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
Over the course of six years, the resort underwent a complete transformation, backed by a significant investment from the Van Andel family, the property’s owners. The heart of the reimagined resort has been relocated to the stunning Deadman’s Beach. It now boasts 52 newly designed beachfront rooms and suites, all just a few steps away from the azure Caribbean Sea.
The property has been expanded to include two redesigned luxury villas, a 10,000-square-foot seaside spa, a full-service yacht club capable of accommodating superyachts up to 200 feet, and a new 3,000-square-foot oceanfront conference center that can host events for up to 180 guests.
Spread over 1,800 acres of untouched tropical landscape, the resort features five exclusive white-sand beaches. Rates begin at $1,000 per night, excluding taxes and fees. The reopening of Peter Island Resort signifies a major boost for the British Virgin Islands’ tourism industry, which has been striving to revive its luxury hospitality sector after the 2017 hurricane season.
