Apple Dominates 2024: Captures 27.7% of Global Smartphone Market
Apple concludes 2024 as the unrivaled titan in the global smartphone arena, boasting a commanding 27.7% market share. This places Apple ahead of Samsung by a significant 4.5 percentage points, as per the latest data from Stocklytics.com. The company’s premium iPhone models, particularly the well-received Pro versions, have been instrumental in securing and maintaining this top position throughout the year.
Meanwhile, Samsung’s market share has dwindled to 23.2%, marking a substantial 7% decline over the past decade. The last time Samsung led the market was in December 2022, when it held a 26.9% share – a figure significantly lower than the 33% it enjoyed in 2019. According to IDC data, Apple shipped approximately 151 million smartphones in the first nine months of 2024, a mere 20 million fewer than Samsung. This represents the smallest gap in the market’s history.
Despite the global dominance of Apple and Samsung, Chinese brands such as Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and Realme have witnessed a meteoric rise in sales over recent years. By offering powerful smartphones at more affordable prices, these brands have become formidable competitors. Their growth has been particularly noticeable in markets where affordability is a key factor, thereby reshaping the competitive landscape of the smartphone industry.
