Emirates Invests in Fleet Expansion with $3.4 Billion Airbus A350 Order
Emirates, the world’s largest international airline, recently announced a significant fleet expansion at the Dubai Airshow 2025. The expansion includes an order for eight additional Airbus A350-900 aircraft, valued at $3.4 billion at list prices.
The order, which is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-84 engines, will increase the airline’s total A350-900 fleet to 73 units upon delivery completion. The new aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 2031. This move signifies Emirates’ ongoing commitment to fleet modernization and network expansion.
As of now, Emirates has received 13 A350 aircraft, with the first entering passenger service in November 2024. The airline recently marked a significant operational milestone by deploying its first ultra-long-range A350-900ULR variant to Adelaide, Australia.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates, highlighted the A350’s contribution to the airline. He stated that the A350 has provided welcome additional capacity and enabled the introduction of Emirates’ latest inflight products. This includes the popular Premium Economy seats. The aircraft deployment also reflects Adelaide’s growing importance within the carrier’s international network.
The A350 order is part of Emirates’ broader dual-source strategy alongside Boeing 777X aircraft. This strategy positions the airline for continued growth through the 2030s. Industry analysts have noted that this expansion reinforces Emirates’ position at the center of global long-haul traffic flows. This is particularly beneficial for the Dubai hub’s connectivity to Australia and other key markets.
