Meta Unveils Major Update for Ray-Ban Smart Glasses: Live AI and Real-Time Translation

Meta has unveiled a groundbreaking update to its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, integrating Live AI capabilities and real-time language translation.

The v11 firmware update, currently available to early access users in the US and Canada, has made it possible for users to engage in continuous conversations with Meta AI without the need to say “Hey Meta” each time. The innovative Live AI feature enables the glasses to “see” what users are observing and provide real-time feedback about their surroundings. This feature is ideal for hands-free assistance during activities such as cooking, gardening, or exploring.

Moreover, the glasses now support live translation between English, Spanish, French, and Italian. The translation can be heard through the glasses’ speakers or viewed as text transcripts on paired smartphones. Users can also identify songs using the integrated Shazam feature by simply saying, “Hey Meta, what is this song?”

Looking ahead, Meta teased, “We’ll be back with more software updates—and perhaps some surprises—in 2025.” The smart glasses continue to outperform traditional Ray-Ban models, accounting for 60% of sales in European, Middle Eastern, and African stores.
