Unprecedented Growth in Saudi Arabia’s Tourism: A Surge to $73B as Airlines Broaden Reach
Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector has achieved unprecedented growth, reaching $73.3 billion in 2024. With total visitor numbers surpassing 116 million, the Kingdom has established itself as one of the world’s fastest-growing travel destinations. This remarkable expansion has prompted major carriers Saudia and Flynas to significantly increase flight frequencies and add new international routes.
Saudia, the national carrier, has expanded its network with additional routes to European hubs including London, Paris, and Frankfurt. It has also bolstered its Asian presence with increased flights to India, Pakistan, and the Philippines. On the other hand, budget carrier Flynas has capitalized on the growing tourist demand by expanding its domestic network. It now connects major cities like Riyadh, Jeddah, and religious destinations such as Mecca and Medina.
The tourism boom is supported by the ambitious Red Sea Project. This project features luxury resorts and entertainment complexes along the Kingdom’s coastline. In line with this, the government has issued thousands of licenses for alternative accommodations. This move has created a diverse hospitality landscape as Saudi Arabia transforms into a major international tourism hub under its Vision 2030 plan.
