Major Infrastructure Upgrade Completed at Siletz Bay State Airport

The Oregon Department of Aviation (ODAV) has triumphantly concluded a comprehensive $2.2 million runway and electrical rehabilitation project at Siletz Bay State Airport (S45) in Gleneden Beach. This represents a significant infrastructure enhancement for the coastal aviation facility.

The project encompassed the resurfacing of the aging north two-thirds of the runway and repairing low pavement sections on the south end. In addition to this, the airport’s nearly 40-year-old electrical system underwent a complete overhaul, replaced with modern equipment. This has significantly boosted safety and operational capabilities.

The rehabilitation work was meticulously planned to minimize disruption to airport operations. The contractor initiated electrical improvements in fall 2024, with the remaining pavement and electrical work completed in phases. This strategic approach reduced closure time during optimal flying weather conditions.

Siletz Bay State Airport serves the central Oregon coast community and provides critical access for both recreational and emergency aviation services. The improvements ensure the airport can continue operating safely and efficiently for years to come, thereby supporting the local aviation community and coastal access needs.
