L’Oréal Pioneers Sustainable Packaging with Major Recycling Initiative

L’Oréal has taken a significant step towards sustainable packaging by becoming the first major brand owner to join Nextloopp Americas. This groundbreaking consortium is dedicated to creating food-grade recycled polypropylene (rPP) from post-consumer packaging waste.

This partnership is an extension of L’Oréal’s existing collaboration with the UK-based Nextloopp initiative, which commenced in 2022. Led by London-based Nextek Ltd., Nextloopp recently received FDA approval for its food-grade rPP recycling process. This key milestone paves the way for expansion into the Americas market.

The innovative technology employed by Nextloopp incorporates AI-driven sorting, high-performance cleaning, and decontamination systems. These elements combine to create safe, scalable recycling processes.

The collaboration between L’Oréal and Nextloopp aims to strengthen the connection between European and North American markets. It also supports the transfer of knowledge across regions. The partnership showcases how circular packaging models can operate at scale across continents, assisting beauty brands in reducing their environmental footprint.

“We are delighted to welcome L’Oréal as the first brand owner to join Nextloopp Americas,” said Edward Kosior, founder and President of Nextloopp.

This collaboration reinforces L’Oréal’s strategy to increase the use of post-consumer recycled content in packaging. It also aims to reduce the use of virgin plastic across its global portfolio.
