Hartzell Engine Tech Secures FAA Approval for Innovative S-1200 Magnetos

Hartzell Engine Tech has achieved a significant milestone in general aviation ignition systems, securing Federal Aviation Administration Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) for its PowerUP S-1200 Series aircraft magnetos.

The PowerUP S-1200 magnetos, designed as direct replacements for general aviation aircraft, are compatible with both 4- and 6-cylinder engines. Available in impulse-coupled and “Shower of Sparks” configurations, these magnetos deliver superior high-altitude performance above 30,000 feet without the need for pressurization.

“Achieving PMA for the S-1200 Series magnetos is another step in expanding our commitment to providing the aviation community with the most trusted and durable ‘firewall forward’ solutions,” said Rick Quave, Vice President of Engineering for Hartzell Engine Tech.

The magnetos feature enhanced components, including improved flanges, timing cams, fasteners, and access plugs, all contributing to superior reliability.

The company has already started accepting distribution orders and anticipates global stocking availability by the end of the first quarter of 2026. The new magnetos have gained particular attention from aircraft operators due to their resistance to arcing at altitude and proven performance in high-power racing applications.
