Remembering Sheltair Aviation’s Founder, Jerry Holland: A Legacy at 90

Jerry Holland, the founder and chairman of Sheltair Aviation, passed away peacefully at his home on November 18, 2024, at the age of 90. Sheltair Aviation, the largest privately-owned aviation network in the nation, was Holland’s brainchild.

Starting with a single hangar acquisition at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport in 1983, Holland transformed his venture into a sprawling FBO empire. Today, it spans 16 locations across four states – Florida, Colorado, Georgia, and Texas, managing over 4.6 million square feet of aviation-related real estate.

“Jerry’s work ethic and business philosophy made us a leader in the general aviation business,” said Sheltair COO Todd Anderson, who had the privilege of working with Holland for 25 years.

Known as “a simple man with a big vision,” Holland built the company on principles of integrity and service, fostering a “family-first” culture. Before his foray into aviation, Holland founded Holland Builders in 1963 after serving in the U.S. Air Force. He leveraged his construction and real estate background to develop airport properties throughout Florida.

In 2020, his daughter Lisa Holland took over as CEO, with grandson Kai Seymour also joining the leadership team. This move ensured the continuation of the company’s three-generation family legacy.

Holland was married to his wife Mikki for 60 years and leaves behind two daughters and three grandchildren. The funeral arrangements are private, but a public celebration of life will be announced.
