Sports Illustrated Resorts: A New Chapter in Chicago’s Historic Loop

Travel + Leisure Co. has unveiled plans for a Sports Illustrated Resorts location in Chicago, Illinois. This marks the brand’s third location and a significant expansion into one of America’s most sports-passionate cities.

The 250-unit resort is set to transform the existing Virgin Hotel at 203 N Wabash Avenue in Chicago’s downtown Loop. The project aims to capitalize on the city’s rich sports heritage and deep-rooted fan culture.

Chicago’s selection for the new resort reflects its unmatched sports legacy. The city boasts:

  • More than 40 championship trophies across 11 professional and college teams
  • The nation’s oldest ballpark
  • The NFL’s longest-standing stadium
  • The country’s largest arena

Annually, the city welcomes over 55 million visitors and serves as home to some of the world’s most devoted sports fans.

The resort will preserve the building’s historic elements, including its grand staircase from its origins as a financial institution. At the same time, it will incorporate Sports Illustrated’s dynamic brand energy through striking imagery and contemporary sports-inspired design.

Guests can look forward to new amenities, including:

  • An exclusive owner’s lounge
  • A signature fitness center
  • A street-level coffee shop
  • A full-service restaurant
  • A lively sports bar

The conversion will keep the property operational during construction, with completion expected in late 2026. Sales are set to begin in early 2025.
