Pittsburgh International Airport Unveils $1.7B Terminal, Revolutionizing Travel Experience
Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) proudly unveiled its cutting-edge $1.7 billion landside terminal on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. This marks a significant transformation for the region’s travel infrastructure. The 811,000 square foot terminal is set to revolutionize the passenger experience with state-of-the-art amenities and a design inspired by the natural landscape of Western Pennsylvania.
Key features of the new terminal include:
- 12 new TSA security lanes equipped with smart scanners, allowing passengers to keep shoes on and laptops in bags
- A streamlined baggage system that reduces delivery times by half, cutting belt length from eight miles to three miles
- Over 6,000 new parking spaces, including 3,300 covered spots
The terminal also eliminates the need for the underground train system, replacing it with a scenic skybridge that echoes the experience of exiting Pittsburgh’s Fort Pitt tunnels.
“This is a new day for our region. This is an airport built for Pittsburgh, by Pittsburgh,” said CEO Christina Cassotis. The project has generated a whopping $2.5 billion in economic impact and created over 14,000 jobs, with 90% of the construction workforce sourced locally.
The grand opening comes just in time for the busy Thanksgiving travel period, with approximately 25,000 passengers expected on opening day.
