FAA Reduces Flight Restrictions at 40 Major Airports
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has reduced required flight reductions for general aviation at 40 high-impact airports from 10% to 6%. This comes as a result of improved air traffic controller staffing following the recent government shutdown. The revised emergency order has been welcomed by aviation industry groups who anticipate further restoration of general aviation access.
However, certain limitations remain in place. These include:
- Potential 10% reductions during staffing events
- Prohibitions at 12 of the busiest airports
Exemptions are granted for “based” aircraft that must be airworthy, operational, and present at a facility for more than six months.
The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) has praised Congress for concluding the government shutdown and expects further easing of restrictions before the Thanksgiving travel period.
“Our National Airspace System has always thrived on fair and equitable access,” said industry representatives, noting concerns about setting precedents that could impact general aviation operations nationwide.
