Google Expands Its AI Capabilities with the Launch of Standalone Gemini AI App for iPhone Users

On November 14, 2024, Google made a significant stride in expanding its artificial intelligence capabilities to Apple’s ecosystem by officially releasing its dedicated Gemini AI app for iPhone users. The standalone app introduces enhanced functionality, including Gemini Live voice interactions and seamless integration with iOS features such as Dynamic Island support.

“Today, we’re launching a dedicated Gemini app for iPhone,” announced Brian Marquardt, Senior Director of Product Management for Gemini Experiences. “Now, you’ll be able to have easy access to Google’s personal AI assistant, right on your iPhone, free of charge.”

The app, which supports 35 languages, offers both text and voice prompts with AI-powered image generation capabilities.

Prior to this, iOS users could only access Gemini through the main Google app, which offered limited functionality compared to the Android version. This release brings feature parity between platforms and positions Google to compete more directly with Apple Intelligence.

The app includes Extensions that connect Gemini with Google services such as:

  • YouTube
  • Gmail
  • Google Maps

However, it’s worth noting that premium features require a $18.99 monthly Gemini Advanced subscription.
