Iberia Pioneers in Aviation with the Inaugural A321XLR Transatlantic Flight
Spanish flag carrier Iberia etched its name in the annals of aviation history on November 14, 2024. It achieved this feat by operating the world’s first transatlantic flight with the revolutionary Airbus A321XLR, flying from Madrid to Boston. The airline proudly took on the mantle of the global launch operator of this groundbreaking single-aisle aircraft after taking delivery on October 30, 2024.
The A321XLR symbolizes a game-changing advancement in aviation, boasting an unprecedented range of up to 4,700 nautical miles. This is coupled with a 30% lower fuel burn compared to previous generation aircraft. “The A321XLR will allow us to reach new destinations, operating transoceanic routes in a more efficient way,” stated Marco Sansavini, CEO and Chairman at Iberia.
The aircraft is equipped with a premium two-class layout, offering a total of 182 seats. This includes lie-flat business class seats and the new Airspace cabin design. The A321XLR, with its 60% more overhead bin capacity and advanced connectivity features, opens up new possibilities for airlines. It allows them to serve long-haul routes with the economics of a narrow-body aircraft.
